04/20/2010 In recent years it came to fame in 1985 when Whoopie Goldberg starred in the film of the book by Alice Walker and Prince later made a song called "Purple rain". Loved by the hippies of the 60's flower power generation purple is the colour in the shops at the moment.

The high street has been quick to latch on to this catwalk trend and yesterday in Bluewater shopping centre in Kent, without exception, the fashionistas favourite shops all had a purple offering.

Purple is really any colour between blue and red on the colour spectrum. It goes under a number of different names e.g. lilac, heliotrope, mulberry and aubergine to name a few.

The original colour purple "Tyrian purple" came from a dye made from a mollusc that, because of its incredible expense (many times more expensive than gold), in classical antiquity became a symbol of royalty because only the very wealthy could afford it.

There is a purple to suit every skintone and so if you're not sure which purple is right for you, why not treat yourself to a Colour Analysis - this also makes a fantastic present for a special friend.
