UK Ancestry Visa - A UK Visa for Permanent Residency

01/27/2011 The UK provides several different visas that allow you to live, work and travel in the United Kingdom. The UK ancestry visa allows you to stay in the UK if any of your grandparents were born in the same country. The UK ancestry visa service is a UK visa for immigration which permits a Commonwealth citizen to immigrate to the UK. It permits you to live and work in the UK for five years. It is a special visa, as you can re-apply for it.

Applicant for UK ancestry visa must be aged 17 or over, must be a commonwealth citizen and along with that the applicant must have a grandparent who was born in the UK, Channel Islands or the Isle of Man. This visa application may be applicable based upon the British birth of your 4 grandparents, alive or deceased.

UK ancestry visa is initially issued for 5 years. After 5 years, applicants can apply for permanent residency in the UK. Candidates can apply for Indefinite leave to remain (ILR) in the UK if the applicant has spent 5 years continuously in the UK and has employment or can show that they have purpose to look for a job. Applicants, who intend to live, or work in the UK must pro-actively seek or undertake employment, to be able to support themselves without the need for public funding.

In order to apply for UK ancestry visa, candidates must provide the following evidences in support of their application.

1. A full birth certificate.
2. Full birth certificates of the parent and grandparent upon whose ancestry your application is based.
3. Your marriage certificate, (if applicable).
4. Legal adoption papers if your parents were adopted.

To get the UK ancestry visa, above mentioned requirements are necessary for applicants to fulfil the basic criteria of the UK immigration rules.
