Newstead is a long established care home and has been extensively refurbished throughout. We have a range of communal areas, with multiple lounges, dining rooms and a light and airy conservatory. Bedrooms and bathrooms have also all been redecorated. Our sheltered garden, with large patio, lawn, flower beds and veggie plots, is a favourite of our residents; reflected in our gardens winning 5th place in Hereford in Bloom 2018.
We offer a continuum of care from residential care, which progresses to nursing care and includes Parkinson's and complex diabetes management and end of life care. Residents get to know our team and feel supported in their advancing care needs, in a familiar, caring, warm and homely environment.
We also offer respite care, for recuperation following time in hospital or an illness, to regain confidence and that zest for life.
Newstead has an excellent reputation for the quality of its nursing and palliative care. The Gold Standards Framework is the highest accreditation in care, awarded to care homes with exceptional nursing and palliative / end of life care, both for residents and in support of their families. We are very proud to have first achieved the Gold Standard Framework accreditation in 2014. Since then, we are delighted to have, year on year, received this award and we now hold PLATINUM Award Status. In 2022 we were reaccredited with the PLATINUM Gold Standard Framework Award and scored 60 of 60 in their grading and were nominated for The Gold Standard Framework Carehome of the Year 2022.
In 2020, we were awarded by carehome.co.uk as a Top 20 care home in the West Midlands, based on independent reviews. We have just been awarded again in 2023 as a Top 20 Care Home in the West Midlands.

I have worked with older people for the past 32 years, initially in the NHS as a ward sister in Care of the Elderly both in the acute and rehabilitation settings. I moved to the independent sector in 1996 working as a Regional Nurse for a nursing home company providing clinical support to 22 homes. I became a Home Manager in 2001 and have been the registered manager in 5 homes over 11 years.
I hold a Registered Manager Award which I completed in 2008 and I also hold a Certificate in Managing Health Services (IHM accredited).
I am experienced in managing and motivating a team and I like to empower others to look to continually improve and develop the care we deliver to our residents.
I have an 'open door' approach and I am accessible to residents, relatives and staff. I am passionate about person-centred care and genuinely believing that we work in the resident's home and that we must respect it as such.
I believe in meaningful occupation and engagement with residents and giving them a feeling of self-worth and purpose.
As part of a very caring team of staff, my role is to guide and lead and be a positive role model. We work collaboratively to raise the benchmark for excellent standards of person-centred care.
I am privileged to work alongside a fabulous Deputy Manager, Jincy Thomas and a committed team of nurses led by our senior nurse Jan Wilson, known as JayJay. She has dedicated 27 years of her career to the care of residents at Newstead House. She was also instrumental in the home gaining the Gold Standards Framework Accreditation and is our GSF Lead and Dignity Nurse. She has also just been awarded for Best Palliative Care at The 2018 Great British Care Awards.
Relatives entrust their loved ones into our care and we see it as a privilege to care for them as they become part of the Newstead family.
We provide residential and nursing care, on a long term, convalescent or short stay basis. Our team are long-serving at Newstead House, reflecting a happy and caring home.
As with all of our homes, we do our upmost to ensure our residents get the most they can from life. We have achieved the Gold Standard Framework for palliative care, an industry kitemark for care excellence that few homes are able to achieve. We have also been awarded at the Great British Care awards, winning in the palliative care category. Most recently for 2020, we have been awarded as a Top 20 care home in the West Midlands by carehome.co.uk.
Our team are experienced in a range of care needs including Parkinson’s and complex diabetes management. Care is person-centred and includes supporting therapies, exercise, well-being activities and nutrition.
Our food is locally sourced, cooked from fresh ingredients and so tailored to individuals’ wishes and needs.

As you can see from our recent events, both our residents and our staff get involved in anything from a bbq in the Summer, holding our own Olympics to organising themed events to celebrating the various festivals of the year. Everyone gets involved, and our full time activities co-ordinator is here to find out what makes a fun day for you and your family.
